William C Jennings

William C. Jennings, MD, FACS, is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His surgical practice has been focused on vascular access with active clinical and basic science research. He served as director and speaker for the United States CMS sponsored Fistula First program and has conducts many regional vascular access meetings for surgeons and the renal community. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in the field of vascular access and other surgical topics. He was a co-author of the Society for Vascular Surgery clinical practice guidelines for the surgical placement and maintenance of arterial venous hemodialysis access, a member of the Fistula First Breakthrough Initiative Technical Expert Panel, and the vascular access working group. Dr. Jennings participated in the creation and production of the Fistula First surgical education disk set and web-based education course in addition to the Veterans Administration AV Fistula Educational Project Instructional DVD. Some current interests include working with the development team for the Ellipsys© percutaneous AVF device and the Bridge of Life (BOL) non-profit organization, serving patients with renal disease and dialysis care in the developing world since 2006. BOL has completed more than 130 missions in 25 countries worldwide. Dr. Jennings has led 18 vascular surgery missions with BOL with over 700 operations, creating arteriovenous fistulas for dialysis access while working with local surgeons, nephrologists, and nurses to leave a sustained impact at each site and maintain lines of communication for teaching and support.
