James Gilbert

James is a Consultant Transplant and Vascular Access Surgeon at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, UK. He is a specialist in Kidney & Pancreas Transplantation and Vascular access surgery and has a particular interest and expertise in complex and salvage access and in patients with central vein pathology. James inserted Europe's first HeRO graft in 2013 and has the biggest European experience of HeRO graft usage. He currently leads the Trusts access programmes and has developed a vascular access programme for patients with intestinal failure. He co-founded Oxford Silk Phage Technologies and has recently been the PI for the Wrapsody FIM Global Study. James is an educationalist and has a Master’s in education. He is a clinical lecturer at Christ Church College, Oxford and is a Trust’s lead for education. James is the Programme Director for Core Surgical Training in Health Education Thames Valley and the current president of VASBI.
